The recipient of this award is chosen by the Knoxville Ultimate Board of Directors.

The Knoxville Spirit Champion pays tribute to a player who personifies ultimate’s foundational rule, “Spirit of the Game.” SOTG is built on mutual respect, conflict resolution, rules knowledge, body control, communication, and the joy of play.

Whether playing in a pick-up game or a sanctioned club game, this player always plays the game with integrity when they step on the field. The Knoxville Spirit Champion is a consummate teammate, and represents the game the way it should be.

The Captain of the Year Award honors an individual who has exemplified outstanding leadership, dedication, and teamwork as a captain within Knoxville Ultimate. This award celebrates captains who not only excel in strategic decision-making and on-field performance, but also foster positive, inclusive, and supportive environments for their teams.

Captains are the lifeblood of our leagues, and are crucial in promoting our core values of: Safety, Spirit, Community, and Competition. We set high expectations for all our captains, but recipients of this award go above and beyond to provide excellent experiences to our players.
